Yesterday marked the first day of Ramadhan. The day started quite well for me. I am also trying to teach my 7-year old girl who had never fast before to do so. I was a bit confident that she could do it, but was extremely disappointed when she came back from school yesterday and told me that she took a sip from the water cooler during reccess time because she was too thirsty. I know I shouldn't feel that way or even sad, for it is really her first time trying to fast. I should encourage her more and help her in any way I can. But still, I couldn't help feeling disappointed knowing my friends' kids did well on the first day of fasting. Urgh. I shouldn't compare. Yeah. Ok. We'll see how today.
On to another story :D
There is an Indonesian maid working on a higher floor in my block. We became acquintance because her Chinese employer's kid and mine go to the same school. She asked me last week if I have some cookbooks that she could borrow. I lent her 2 of my favourite ones.
Yesterday, she came to me and gave me a small container containing a simple chicken dish she cooked from one of the recipes. I was surprised, took it and told her thanks. But honestly, I didn't want to eat it (was-was), no matter how appetizing it looked when I glanced at it again later in the day, the time when I was most hungry and thirsty :D I threw it away at night.
Today, she asked me if the dish was sedap. Not wanting to hurt her feelings, I said yes sedap. Bohong sunat hehe. So I asked her if her employer liked the dish. She said, "Oh, mam kata sedap. Tapi untuk mereka saya masakkan babi, bukan ayam."
Makkao! Nasib baik aku tak makan seh!!! Baru nak score point puasa semalam. Bukannya senang si Lynn ni nak score point. Itupun kalau dapat point!
Anyway, I pity the maid. She's a Muslim but her employer don't allow her to fast because they are afraid she may feel weak and has no energy to do her job. Hmmm. The things people do to overcome the obstacles of poverty.
With that note, I am grateful for the food we have. For the roof over our head. For the love that I have. For the friends that I made. Amin. (Dapat point tak gitu? heheh.)

Hey Diana.. Congrats for trying your very first day of fasting. I know its not easy especially since some of your schoolmates are not fasting. And seing all that food during recess... sluurrpp But try again today ok. Even if you cannot get one full day, try fasting a bit longer than you did yesterday. Im sure ur mama will be proud of you anyway.

Hi, Selamat berpuasa semua!
Shsuya, thanks for writing to Diana. She read it and giggled. Today, she did it full day! Yipee! I started fasting when I was 6. But half day jer. Can't remember about when I was 7. But when I was 8, I think I did well, mostly full days.
Salha, Lynna, I tak marah dia. Cuma hampa kecewa. But yeah, I've learned not to be if she didn't do it again today. But she berjaya mengatasi kehausannya! Chebah!
Starlight, Selamat Beb! Gua macam kenal jer lu siapa. Jeng Jeng Jeng!
